Stray bullets kill, wound children in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor countryside
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – On Thursday, a child was killed and his sister was wounded as a result of stray bullets fired during their father’s wedding in a town in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, east Syria.
Eight-year-old Sari al-Sarhan lost his life and his six-year-old sister, Sahar, was wounded as a result of stray bullets fired while they were attending their father’s wedding to his second wife, a source from the village of Daman, east of Deir ez-Zor, said.
The sister, Sahar, was transferred to al-Salam Hospital in the town of al-Busirah and her condition is good, according to a doctor in the hospital, the source added.
Accidental deaths from indiscriminate gunfire are not uncommon due to the proliferation of weapons in the region and their use in family and clan disputes and special occasions.
On September 2, a child lost his life as the result of a stray bullet fired from his older brother’s weapon in the town of al-Husain in the northern countryside of Deir ez-Zor.
On August 16, a civilian died as a result of indiscriminate firing during a wedding in the city of Deir ez-Zor.
