Children died, wounded in landmine explosion in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – On Sunday, a child died and two others were injured in a landmine explosion of the remnants of war in the countryside of Deir ez-Zor, east Syria.

A resident of the town of al-Izba in the northern countryside of Deir ez-Zor told North Press that the child Abd al-Muhammad Sawadi, 14, died, and Khalid al-Salama, 13, and his brother Ali al-Salama, 9, were injured in a landmine explosion while playing on a farmland adjacent to their house on the outskirts of the town.

The children come from the town of Khisham which is controlled by the Syrian government forces in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, but they are living in the town of al-Izba.

The two wounded children were taken to al-Jadid Public Hospital in the town of Jadid Baggara, east of Deir ez-Zor, “one of them needs surgery because he was hit by shrapnel, while the other had his leg and hand amputated,” according to a doctor in the hospital.

On August 28, three civilians died and one another injured in a landmine explosion of the remnants of war in the town of al-Duwair, east of Deir ez-Zor.
