Russian warplanes raid opposition locations in Syria’s Idlib

IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – On Tuesday, the Russian warplanes bombed sites of opposition factions in the southern countryside of Idlib, northwestern Syria.

Opposition military sources told North Press that Russian warplanes carried out three air raids, using high-explosive concussion missiles, on the outskirts of the town of Sfuhun, in the Zawiya Mountain area, south of Idlib.

They added that the bombing affected the surrounding forests and agricultural lands in the town, and caused the uprooting and burning of some trees, in addition to damaging some residential houses close to the areas where the shells fell.

On the other hand, sources stated that Jabhat Ansar al-Islam faction (Supports of Islam Front) targeted the gatherings of government forces in the areas of Jurin and al-Mashari’ in the western countryside of Hama, with mortars and B9 shells.

Yesterday, on Monday, the government forces, stationed in the city of Kafranbel bombed opposition factions’ positions in the towns of al-Fatira, Sfuhun, and Kansafra in the Zawiya Mountain, with mortars and rocket launchers.

The de-escalation zone in northwest Syria is subject to a Russian-Turkish ceasefire agreement signed in March 2020; however, the area witnesses frequent mutual bombardment despite the entry of the ceasefire into force.
