Iranian-backed factions’ shelling kill three people in Syria’s Daraa, negotiations failed
DARAA, Syria (North Press) – On Sunday, two civilians and a policeman were killed due to the continuous bombardment of Iranian-backed factions on the city of Daraa, southern Syria, amid failure of negotiations between Daraa’s Central Committee and the government.
Local sources in the Tariq al-Sadd neighborhood told North Press that Ahmad Ali Ghazlan and Bilal Muhammad Ghazlan died of their injuries in the shelling of the Iranian-backed factions on a residential area in the neighborhood with artillery shells.
Meanwhile, the policeman, Badr Fahr al-Haj Omar was killed and two policemen, Muhammad Ahmad Harshoni and Sumer Habib Musa, were wounded as a result of being hit by a mortar shell, which was launched, by mistake, by the government forces and landed in the police station in the al-Gharaj al-Gharbi neighborhood of the city of Daraa, according to the source.
Simultaneously, the Central Committee in Daraa issued a statement in which it announced the collapse of the negotiations “due to the intransigence of the government forces and their failure to respond to Russian proposals and their continued imposition of harsh conditions.”
The statement said that the government forces did not respect the ceasefire, and because of “the advancement of the Fourth Division militias and their attempt to storm the city of Daraa from more than one axis.”
Despite the announcement of a ceasefire by Russian military police and holding negotiations that reached no progress, government forces and Iranian-backed factions have been shelling the besieged neighborhoods of Daraa for more than two months.
The Syrian government forces and the Iranian-backed factions have been besieging the Daraa al-Balad and other neighborhoods and closing all roads leading to them for more than two month.
