Wounded in infighting among Turkish-backed groups in Syria’s Afrin

AFRIN, Syria (North Press) – Infighting between members of the Turkish-backed Sultan Murad faction and the pro-Turkish Military Police in the countryside of Afrin, north of Aleppo, on Sunday resulted in the injury of six members from both sides.

A fight erupted between members of the two factions in Bulbul district in Afrin countryside after the child of a Military Police officer fell off of a water tanker driven by a member of Sultan Murad. The former group then opened fire and shot the driver in front of Military Police headquarters, a special source told North Press.

Six members of the two factions were wounded; one of them is critically wounded.

The Afrin region, north of Aleppo, has been under the control of the Turkish forces and the Turkish-backed armed groups since March 2018 after a military operation launched on January 20 of the same year.

The Turkish operation displaced more than 300,000 of the indigenous residents of Afrin, 100,000 of which are residing in five camps and destroyed villages in the northern countryside of Aleppo.

The areas of control of the Turkish-backed armed groups have been witnessing assassinations and arrest accompanied by repeated explosions amid the armed groups’ failure to set security in the region.
