Casualties due to landmine explosion in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – On Saturday, three civilians were killed and another was wounded, when a landmine exploded in a town east of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria.

A local source from the town of al-Duwair, 80 km east of Deir ez-Zor, said that Jassem al-Aleiwi, 24, Ahmad al-Ayada, 29, and Saleh al-Saleh, 26, lost their lives, while Assaf al-Ali was injured, as a result of a landmine explosion on the outskirts of the town, while they were searching for missing sheep of them.

The four victims were from the town of al-Duweir, which is under the control of government forces, according to the source.

The injured was transferred to a field hospital in the town, after which he was transferred to a hospital in Damascus, “as he needs surgery to extract the shrapnel from his body,” according to a doctor in the field hospital.

On July 25, a member of an Iranian-backed faction was killed and another wounded when an explosive device exploded in the city of al-Mayadin, east of Deir ez-Zor.

The Iranian-backed factions have controlled the areas of the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, west of the Euphrates, since the expulsion of ISIS in late 2018.
