Civilian injured by landmine explosion in Syria’s Idlib

IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – On Saturday, a displaced person from the northern countryside of Hama was injured, while harvesting fig, by the explosion of a landmine of the remnants of the war, south of Idlib, northwest Syria.

“A landmine of the remnants of the war exploded with a group of workers, who were harvesting fig near the town of al-Bara in the Zawiya Mountain area, south of Idlib,” local sources told North Press.

“The young man Ahmad al-Ibrahim, a displaced person from the city of Morik, north of Hama, was injured in the explosion, and he was taken to a medical point near the area,” the sources added.

It is worth noting that the unexploded remnants of war as a result of the government forces’ frequent bombing of the northern countryside of Idlib, and the mines that were planted during the battles in the Zawiya Mountain area early last year, have caused the death and injury of dozens of civilians.

On August 23, a landmine of the remnants of war exploded in the Zawiya Mountain area, south of Idlib, northwest Syria, killing an elderly farmer and wounding another.

On August 11, a young man was killed and a child and four other workers were injured while they were picking figs in the vicinity of al-Bara town.

According to the statistics of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), more than one hundred Syrians were killed by the explosion of remnants of war between the beginning of 2021 and April.
