Pro-Turkish faction detains citizens in Syria’s northern countryside
ALEPPO, Syria (North Press) – On Friday, the Turkish-backed Elite Army (Jaysh al-Nukhbah) arrested people in Mabata (Maabatli) district in the countryside of Afrin, north of Aleppo.
Members of Jaysh al-Nukhba stormed the villages of Sheikh Hatko and Amouro of Mabata and detained residents, a source told North Press.
The source added that he knew of the detainees, Imad Ahmed and Farouq Hanan, who were taken to an unknown location, without knowing the reasons for the arrest.
Al-Nukhba asked the family of the detainees for a ransom estimated at $1,000 for their release, while their fate is still unknown.
Afrin region and its districts, north of Aleppo, are subjected to Turkish-backed opposition factions’ control since March 2018.
