Landmine exploded in Syria’s Idlib countryside, casualties reported
IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – On Monday, a landmine of the remnants of war exploded in the Zawiya Mountain area, south of Idlib, northwest Syria, killing an elderly farmer and wounding another.
A resident of al-Bara town in the Zawiya Mountain area, told North Press that a landmine of the remnants of war exploded by workers picking figs in an agricultural land near the town.
He added that the explosion resulted in the death of the elderly Abdul Razzaq al-Othman, who was from the same town, and the injury of another, who was taken to a medical point by other workers.
On August 11, a young man was killed and a child and four other workers were injured while they were picking figs in the vicinity of al-Bara town.
A few days before that, a child was killed in the same area while he was also working in fig picking.
After frequent bombing by the government forces and mines that were planted during the battles in Zawiya Mountain early last year, the unexploded remnants of war caused the death and injury of dozens of civilians.
