Residents of Syria’s Azaz protest against Turkish electricity company
AZAZ, Syria (North Press) – Residents of Azaz city, north of Syria’s Aleppo, protested against the Turkish electric company which provides the region with power, denouncing security chaos in the city.
The protesters raised signs bearing slogans against the local council and the electric company, in addition to denouncing the security situation there, a local source told North Press.
The electric company had previously promised to improve the electricity conditions in the city; however, none of those promises were implemented, which has raised resentment among residents, according to the source.
The source pointed out that the company has been cutting electricity to the city of Azaz for long hours for more than a month, especially during the hottest hours of the afternoon, the source added.
A year ago, the Turkish Ak-Ay Elektrik brought electricity from Turkey to the city of Azaz.
The company is a private Turkish company and licensed according to the Turkish Labor Law.
Earlier on Monday, the city of Azaz witnessed a VBIED explosion at the entrance to the city which wounded seven people and caused massive material and property damage.
