Russia targets opposition sites in Syria’s northwest

IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – On Monday, Russian warplanes renewed their bombardment on opposition factions’ sites within the de-escalation zone, while areas in southern Idlib and Hama witnessed artillery and missile shelling by government forces on the sites of the factions in the area.

The Russian warplanes targeted in several air strikes, the area between the towns of al-Bara and Kansafra in Zawiya Mountain, south of Idlib, using vacuum missiles, military sources told North Press.

The Russian raids coincided with intense artillery and missile shelling by the government forces stationed in the city of Kafr Nobel, during which they targeted the villages and towns of Shanan, Kansafra, Benin and the outskirts of al-Bara in Zawiya Mountain, south of Idlib, the sources added.

The sources indicated that the forces of the Damascus government bombed with artillery shells the vicinity of the Turkish point in the town of Kadora in the southern countryside of Idlib.

In Hama, government forces stationed in Jorin Camp bombarded the villages and towns of Qalidin, al-Ziyarah, Qahira, and al-Enkawi located in the Ghab Plain area, west of Hama, with mortars and heavy artillery, according to the same sources.

The bombing coincided with an intense flight of Russian reconnaissance planes over the area.

The region is witnessing a military escalation despite the entry into force of the ceasefire agreement signed between Russia and Turkey in March of last year 2020.
