Military reinforcements of pro-Iranian factions reach Syrian Desert

PALMYRA, Syria (North Press) – On Thursday, military reinforcements of the pro-Iranian factions of Harakat Hezbollah al-Nujaba and Liwa Fatemiyoun arrived in the vicinity of the city of Palmyra in the central Syrian Desert in the eastern countryside of Homs, sent by the Iraqi Popular Mobilization Forces.

“The reinforcements included Hummers, medium and heavy machine guns, and military advisers from the Iraqi Popular Mobilization Forces,” Ali al-Karar (a pseudonym), a member of Liwa Fatemiyoun, said.

“The Iranian factions are preparing to launch a large-scale security campaign in areas in the Syrian Desert, starting from Palmyra city towards the desert of Deir ez-Zor and Raqqa, in successive stages,” he added.

The campaign targets ISIS cells active in the vicinity of Palmyra and its neighboring towns, he pointed out.

The campaign also includes the pursuit of suspects in the city and in the eastern countryside of Homs.

The area witnessed a full alert by government forces and Iranian factions on the Deir ez-Zor-Palmyra road and the vicinity of the towns of the Syrian Desert, today at dawn, coinciding with the arrival of reinforcements.
