Druze of Syria’s Suwayda warn of hidden parties behind infighting

SUWAYDA, Syria (North Press) – Druze al-Aqel Sheikh Hikmat al-Hijri warned the Druze community on Monday of the existence of what he described as “hidden hands” manipulating the fate of Suwayda, and added that their goal is to sow discord and strife within society and spark infighting among the Druze.

Last week, the pro-government National Defense Forces (NDF) pushed their groups to the town of al-Raha, south of Suwayda, and the Syrian Brigade Party and its military forces (the Counter-Terrorism Force) in Suwayda made a threat against the groups.

Masoud Aal-Zein (a pseudonym), one of the sheikhs and one of the companions of Sheikh al-Aqel Hikmat al-Hijri, told North Press that the issuance of the statement by al-Hijri is an alert to the presence of external parties funding armed factions inside Suwayda.

Al-Hijri announced his support for all social and civil activities in Daraa that call for civil peace. “The fate of the mountain [Suwayda] and the plain [Daraa] is one, and the security strikes that happen in Daraa will not be far from Suwayda in the coming days,” he added.
