Second dose against coronavirus vaccination starts in Syria’s northeast IDP camp
DERIK, Syria (North Press) – On Sunday, a vaccination campaign against coronavirus started in Roj camp in the countryside of Derik, in the far northeast Syria, for the elderly and those suffering from chronic diseases.
Sarbest Hussam, Vaccination Officer at the Health Center in Derik, said that the second dose of the vaccination will continue in Roj camp for one day.
“The number of people who will receive the vaccine is 20, who are over 55 years old, and those who suffer from chronic diseases,” he told North Press.
The vaccines are of the British AstraZeneca type, provided by the World Health Organization (WHO).
Hussam stated that the vaccination is scheduled to start tomorrow, on Monday, in Newroz camp, north of Derik.

Late in April, the United Nations announced the arrival of a shipment of about 200,000 doses of Covid-19 vaccines to Syria through the global COVAX initiative.
In May, the WHO, in coordination with the Health Board of the Autonomous Administration, began vaccinating health personnel in the People’s Hospital in Hasakah.
