Iraq launches large-scale security operation against ISIS remnants

ERBIL, Iraq (North Press) – On Saturday, Iraqi Security Media Cell launched a large-scale security operation against Islamic State (ISIS) in areas north of the Iraqi capital Baghdad.

Baghdad Operations Command, with the support of the Air Force, Army Aviation, and the US-led Global Coalition, launched the operation at 6:00 am on Saturday, targeting areas north of Baghdad, Security Media Cell said in a statement, which North Press Agency had a copy of.

Units of Special Forces, Federal Police, Popular Mobilization and other security apparatus participated in the operation, according to the statement.

“The operation aims at pursuing ISIS militants in these areas,” the statement added.

This operation followed dozens of similar other operations launched in different areas of the country especially after security checkpoints and electricity towers were successively targeted during the few past months.
