Women in Syria’s northeast feature in political field: Women’s Council

RAQQA, Syria (North Press) – Currently, areas in northeast Syria are witnessing a remarkable emergence of the woman’s role in politics in contrast with other Syrian areas, said Shames Sino, an official in Syrian Women’s Council in Raqqa, north Syria, on Monday.

The Raqqa-based Syrian Women’s Council is a group which includes Syrian women’s groups and unions in addition to independent female figures, and aims to unify the energies and efforts of Syrian women in order to create a democratic social system that achieves freedom, equality, and justice for women.

Women in Syria should increase their participation in the political field in order to leave a feminist mark on the future of the new Syria, Sino told North Press.

The Syrian woman is the biggest loser during the war which the country has been witnessing for a decade, “but this does not mean she should surrender and abandon her rights,” the official said.

On Sunday, the Syrian Women’s Council held a workshop under the name of Haweri (Discuss) for women residing in Abu Qubai’ Camp for Idlib IDPs in the western countryside of Raqqa.

The workshop stressed the importance of political discussion for a solution to the current situation which Syria is witnessing, and also the benefits that can be fulfilled in the event that Syrian women participate in any symposia or conferences.

Additionally, the workshop tackled the means and tools that Syrian women can obtain in order to strengthen their abilities to participate in the political field and in decision-making positions.
