Pro-regime NDF withdraws from town in Syria’s Suwayda

SUWAYDA, Syria (North Press) – On Sunday, the National Defense Forces (NDF) withdrew from the town of al-Raha in the southern countryside of Suwayda, and removed the military checkpoints at the entrances and squares of the town.

Ra’afat al-Rawas (a pseudonym), a notable resident of the town of al-Raha, said that members of the NDF entered the town last Friday and opened fire indiscriminately.

He pointed out that their goal is to provoke the groups of Samer al-Hakim, who is the leader of one of the newly formed factions, in addition to the town’s residents.

Against the background of the shooting, residents gathered in the town square and demanded the secretary of the Ba’ath Party branch and the governor meet with them, and added that what NDF members had done will drag the town into “an uncalculated confrontation.”

The source said that members of the NDF withdrew from the town this morning and headed to the city of Suwayda under the pressure of the residents.

After the NDF left the town, popular committees were formed and deployed at the entrances and exits of the town with the intention of self-defense.

“Ten youth popular committees were formed, spread throughout the town, and they stressed their rejection of any national defense intervention affiliated with the military security and Iran,” al-Rawas said.
