Syrian government to grant Iranian fighters in Deir ez-Zor citizenship

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – On Sunday, the civil registry in the town of al-Tebni in the western countryside of Deir ez-Zor, which is under the control of the Syrian government forces, began preparing for the issuance of personal proofs and family record books for the families of the pro-Iranian factions in the region.

Ahmed al-Abdullatif, a pseudonym for an employee at the registry building in the town of al-Tebni, said: “Syrian personal proofs of ID cards and family record books will be given to families of Iraqi, Afghani and Iranian nationalities in the region.”

He pointed out that “they officially received a letter from the Governorate of Deir ez-Zor about issuing identification documents to the families of Liwa Fatemiyoun, Harakat Hezbollah al-Nujaba and the Kata’ib Hezbollah, which operate in the countryside of Deir ez-Zor.”

According to Abdullatif, this step aims to facilitate service matters, obtain work, and buy homes for non-Syrian families whose sons are fighting within the ranks of the Iranian factions with the aim of granting them citizenship.

However, the residents of the region fear that the factions will take control of the government departments after obtaining citizenship, as they will be able to work and own homes and property within Deir ez-Zor and its countryside, according to the same source.
