Fire in Syria’s Raqqa leaves casualty, wounded

RAQQA, Syria (North Press) –  A person lost his life and three others were injured Saturday in a fire in the public garage in the city of Raqqa, northern Syria.

Ahmed al-Haj, the duty officer in the initial response team of the Civil Council in Raqqa, said that the team put out the fire during the fire, but a worker died and three others were injured while performing maintenance work in the garage.

Al-Haj added that the three injured people were transferred to Raqqa National Hospital.

A medical source from the National Hospital told North Press that one of the injured was in critical condition.

The cause of the fire was due to maintenance work (welding) on a metal tank close to tanks filled with fuel, according to workers in the garage.

Five cars which were parked in the garage were burnt due to the accident.

Two weeks ago, an electric generator was slightly burned near Tel Abyad Street in the center of Raqqa city as a result of maintenance work in conjunction with high temperatures, resulted in minor material damage.
