Syria’s Deir ez-Zor countryside protests in solidarity with Daraa

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – On Friday, the two towns of Meheimida, west of Deir ez-Zor, and Gharanij, 90 kilometers east of Deir ez-Zor, witnessed protestations denouncing violations by the Syrian government forces against residents of Daraa.

“This protest is the least we can do in solidarity with civilians to support Daraa’s residents and condemn the crimes committed by the Syrian government and the affiliated militias against civilians,” Ahmad al-Muhammad, a protester from Gharanij, said.

“We call on the international community and human rights organizations to intervene and stop this barbaric aggression against Daraa, especially since everyone realizes the Syrian government and the methods it follows to break up demonstrations and protests, which warns of a humanitarian disaster,” al-Muhammad added.

“Violations of the Syrian government and Russian-backed militias do not differentiate between the elderly, children, and women and we, as residents of Deir ez-Zor, stand together against them,” Ali al-Askar, a resident from Gharanij and a participant in the protest, said.

“The international community should break the silence and stop the bath of blood in Daraa regarding what is happening against the residents. This is a systematic genocide against both humans and stones,” al-Askar added.

Residents of Daraa should cling to their land and city and never response to government’s calls to surrender and to reject all their calls of forced deportation, according to him.

Yesterday, the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC) condemned the use of the excessive force by the Syrian government against unarmed civilians southern Syria, warning of the escalation, which it described as dangerous in the city of Daraa.
