Syria’s Hasakah Asayish arrests 42 suspected criminals

HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – On Friday, the General Command of the Internal Security Forces (Asayish) in north and east Syria said that it had managed to arrest 42 persons wanted for committing murder, armed robbery, and other offenses during a security campaign in Hasakah, northeastern Syria.

During a meeting with journalists attended by North Press, the official in the Media Office of the Asayish Abdullah Sa’doun said,  “the campaign was launched weeks ago in response to the demands of the sheikhs and tribal notables in Hasakah, and it ended on July 28.”

“The Asayish seized a number of Kalashnikovs and pump action weapons, a large amount of ammunition, a number of mobile phones and military uniforms,” Sa’doun added.

Some of the persons were wearing military uniforms “to impersonate security personnel during robberies in order to carry out their mean actions aimed at spreading chaos and destabilizing security,” he referred.

The statement called on residents to report any situation affecting their security and coexistence.

On Wednesday, the Asayish announced the arrest of most of those who participated in the killing of a girl in Hasakah at the end of June.

By the end of June, a girl was shot dead by her parents in the northern countryside of Hasakah under the pretext of honour. A video of the incident was published amid widespread calls for the killers to be held accountable.
