Syria’s Derik families condemn Turkey’s exhumation of martyr’s graves in Afrin
DERIK, Syria (North Press) – On Saturday, the Council of Martyr’s Families (organization of families in north and east Syria whose children lost lives during the wars that have been broken out since 2012) in the city of Derik, in the far northeast of Syria, condemned the exhumation of Martyr’s graves in the city of Afrin by Turkey and Turkish-backed armed factions.
“Through exhuming martyr’s graves in the city of Afrin, Turkey tries to export its internal crisis since this phase that we are witnessing is tightening screws on Erdogan’s policy in all aspects,” Nayef Ali, father of Khabur, who died in Afrin, told North Press.
Ali made his words on the margins of a statement issued by Council of Martyr’s Families in the city of Derik, as he condemned the Turkish practices in Afrin, describing them as “practices similar to those of Islamic State (ISIS), including sabotage, killing, displacement, beheading and mutilation of corpses.”
“Erdogan, through this practices, is distracting the Turkish public opinion from internal problems by creating external ones,” Ali added.
Exhuming graves by Turkey in such a time comes “as a result of the Turkish political and economic crisis and having deteriorating international ties especially after the fruitless meeting between the Turkish President and the American President Joe Biden,” according to Ali.
