Turkish forces shell villages in Syria’s Manbij
MANBIJ, Syria (North Press) – On Saturday at dawn, the Turkish forces shelled several villages near frontlines between the Manbij Military Council and the Turkish-backed armed factions in the northern and eastern countryside of Manbij, northern Syria.
Jasem al-Muhammad, a resident of the village of al-Masi, north of Manbij, said that the village was bombed “for the first time since the city of Manbij was liberated.”
“The shelling that targeted the village came from the Turkish base in the village of al-Tokhar al-Saghir on the opposite side,” al-Muhammad added.
Six shells fell down on lands near civilian houses, according to al-Muhammad.
In an exclusive statement to North Press, Khalid al-Awni, a resident of Awn al-Dadat village, said that his village was targeted with massive number of mortars.
“The Turkish shelling was launched from the Turkish base in the village of al-Halwanji, north of Awn al-Dadat village,” al-Awni added.
“The Turkish shelling did not leave any civil wounded,” according to al-Awni.
Meanwhile, the Turkish shelling coincided with an infiltration attempt by the Turkish-backed armed factions near the village of al-Hoshariya, northeast of Manbij, but it was foiled by Manbij Military Council Forces.
As a result, 16 militants of the Turkish-backed armed factions were killed including militants of Ahrar al-Sharqiya, Suleiman Shah, and Levant Front (al-Jabha al-Shamiya), according to the official website of the Manbij Military Council’s Media Center.
Villages near the frontlines starting from the northeastern to the northern countryside reaching to the northwestern countryside of Manbij has been witnessing an almost daily Turkish shelling with medium and heavy weapons.
