AANES’s Martyrs Affairs Office condemns Turkish practices against YPG grave
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – On Friday, the Martyrs Affairs Office in northeastern Syria condemned the “terrorist practices that Turkey and Turkish-backed armed factions in Syria are committing,” the last of which was the exhumation of a mass grave in Afrin of fighters in the People’s Protection Units (YPG) who fell in defense of the city in the face of the Turkish attacks in 2018.
Last Wednesday, the Turkish Anadolu Agency published pictures of corpses exhumed from under the dirt, claiming that it was a mass grave.
“Turkey has exhumed the bodies of the martyrs in Afrin in full view of the world without any regard for human, moral, and religious values,” the Martyrs Affairs Office added.
“The practices carried out by Turkey and its armed factions against our people and their sanctities are unprecedented in history,” the office pointed out.
The office appealed to the international human rights organizations and parties to put an end to the Turkish violations.
On Thursday, residents and settlers in Afrin stated that the bodies belonged to the YPG fighters who lost their lives during the last battles against Turkey, and were hastily buried amid the continuous air bombardment at the time.
