The new social contract will shape the administration: Syria’s AANES
RAQQA, Syria (North Press) – The administration’s shape and structure will be determined by the new social contract which will include the Executive Council, the Legislative Council, the Supreme Administrative Court and the Election Commission, said Farid Atti, co-chair of the General Council of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES), on Thursday.
Today, the AANES Social Contract Drafting Committee held its first meeting with the presence of most of its members in the city of Hasakah, northeastern Syria.
The formation of the committee came as one of the outcomes of the National Conference for the People of the Jazira and Euphrates, which was held by the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC) late in 2020.
“The Autonomous Administration left the institutions, parties, and women’s and youth movements free to choose the figures they represent in the Social Contract Drafting Committee,” Atti told North Press.
The meeting was attended by officials of the Autonomous Administration, political parties and representatives of civil society institutions in addition to human rights activists.
The meeting focused on re-drafting the AANES Social Contract.
During the meeting, the co-chair of the AANES Executive Council, Amina Ossi, said that this will lead to the adoption of a working mechanism to redraft the Social Contract.
“The attendees will determine the maximum period for completing a social contract,” she added.
On July 12, the AANES General Council approved, by majority, the names of the members of the Social Contract Drafting Committee.
The social contract is a set of theoretical and practical foundations, laws and organizational rules, which are established to determine the relationship between the administration and the people, and to clarify the rights and duties of individuals and officials within the society.
In mid-June, the AANES General Council set the structure of a committee to redraft the “Social Contract” in force in the AANES-held areas.
