Mutual shelling between government forces and armed factions renewed in Syria’s northwest

IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – On Thursday, the de-escalation zone in northwestern Syria witnessed a mutual shelling between the Syrian government forces and the armed opposition factions in light of the military escalation that the region has been witnessing for two months.

Eyewitnesses told North Press that the government forces shelled the armed factions’ positions east of Idlib, targeting a house in the vicinity of al-Fou’a town.

The sources added that the shelling resulted in the killing of five people, including a child, and the injury of others, who were taken to medical points near the area.

“On Thursday, the government forces targeted the fortifications of the opposition factions in the town of al-Ruwaiha, south of Idlib, with artillery shells, in addition to the factions’ points in the towns of Tidel and al-Jina, in the western countryside of Aleppo,” military sources of the opposition told North Press.

Artillery shelling also targeted positions of the armed factions in Hmeimat village near the contact lines with the government forces, west of Hama, according to the same sources.

In a related context, the Turkish army targeted military positions of the government forces in the city of Ma’arat al-Numan and the town of Hazarin in the southern countryside of Idlib, with heavy artillery shells.

The al-Fath al-Mubin Operations Room, which includes several factions, announced that it targeted military sites and gatherings of government forces stationed in the Jorin camp, west of Hama.
