Assad raises employee salaries by 50% in wake of price increases
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – On Sunday, Syrian President Bashar Assad issued Legislative Decree No. 19, which stipulates an increase in the salaries of state workers by 50%.
The increase came for both civil and military employees of the state, in addition to raising the maximum salary to 71,515 SYP (22.88 USD) per month.
Decree No. 20 will increase the pensions of retirees by 40%.
Last week, the government raised the prices of sugar and rice from 500 (0.16 USD) to 1,000 SYP (0.32 USD) per kilogram, in addition to raising the price of 95-octane gasoline to 3000 pounds (0.96 USD) per liter.
