Covid-19 vaccination in Syria’s Kobani starts
KOBANI, Syria (North Press) – On Monday, the Health Board in the Euphrates Region started to vaccinate the medical staff in the city of Kobani, north Syria, against Covid-19.
“About 100 doses of Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccine, as a first batch, have reached the city of Kobani in coordination between the AANES Health Board and the World Health Organization,” said Ahmed Mahmoud, co-chair of the Health Board in the Euphrates Region.
“Of course, this number is small, but it will be increased according to the demand on the vaccine. This is a preliminary number to ascertain the extent of the demand of the medical staff,” he added.
Other doses have reached Ain Issa Hospital to vaccine the medical staff in Ain Issa town and Tel Abyad countryside.
Mahmoud pointed out that vaccinating the elderly and those who suffer from chronic diseases will start after the vaccination of the medical staff is completed.
Mahmoud Khalil, director of Kobani Hospital, was the first person from the medical staff to be vaccinated against Covid-19 in the city of Kobani, after he was infected with the virus in October 2020, as he suffered from the symptoms for a month and a half.
The number of coronavirus infections in northeast Syria has reached 18,535, including 763 deaths and 1,876 recoveries.
On May 26, a medical source from the World Health Organization (WHO) said that about 23,000 doses of coronavirus vaccine arrived in the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) areas.
In coordination with the AANES Health Board, the WHO started the process of vaccinating the health staff of al-Sha’ab Hospital in the city of Hasakah, northeast Syria.
