Kurdistan Region’s President discusses Syria with Russian ambassador

ERBIL, KRG, Iraq (North Press) – President of the Kurdistan Regional Government of Iraq (KRG) Nechirvan Barzani discussed with the new Russian ambassador to Iraq the situation in Syria and ways to solve its problems, in addition to issues related to Kurdish and Iraqi affairs in general.

On Monday, Barzani received Elbrus Kutrashev, the new ambassador of the Russian Federation in Iraq, and an accompanying delegation.

According to a statement by the region’s presidency, the both parties discussed the situation in Syria and the developments there.

Both sides agreed that the Syrian situation and Syria’s issues should be resolved by political means.

Barzani also discussed with the Russian ambassador the early elections and the situation in Iraq in general, in addition to coronavirus and vaccination campaigns.

Barzani congratulated the ambassador on assuming his duties, wishing him success.

They stressed the bilateral desire to strengthen relations and expand areas of cooperation and partnership between Iraq and the Kurdistan region and between Russia, according to what was stated in the statement.

It also stated that the Russian ambassador indicated that his country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs is concerned with the Kurdish issue, and talked about the effectiveness of the Kurds in Russia and their prominent role and position in many important sectors in their country.
