Cancer treatment center opens in Syria’s Raqqa
RAQQA, Syria (North Press) – On Saturday, the Cancer Treatment Center in the city of Raqqa, northern Syria, started to effectively work to provide all patients’ needs of chemical doses and other treatments.
The Cancer Treatment Center, which is the first of its kind and is affiliated with a local organization in Raqqa, was established by the efforts of volunteer doctors and nurses from the city under the supervision of a physiotherapist.
The center works in coordination with the Health Committee of the Civil Council in the city.
Patients with cancer used to go to the Public Hospital in the city of Qamishli or al-Biruni University Hospital in Damascus.
“The center conducted statistics to show the number of cancer patients in the city, which has reached 825 cases, including women and children,” Musa al-Shawkan, director of the Cancer Treatment Center, told North Press.
Al-Shawkan added that the center is working to secure chemical doses for cancer patients and the early detection device.
The city of Raqqa has a number of hospitals, including public hospitals, which are the National Hospital, al-Hilal, Obstetrics and Gynaecology Hospital, in addition to several private hospitals, 26 clinics and health centers.
“One of the center’s goals is to stop the difficulty of traveling to other Syrian cities for treatment,” he noted.
Currently, the center provides secondary treatments for cancer patients for free, such as medications for high blood pressure, diabetes, heart diseases, antibiotics, general tonics and vitamins, according to al-Shawkan.
