Syrian government soldier killed, others wounded in Deir ez-Zor

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – A member of the government forces’ Fourth Division was killed and two others were seriously wounded on Sunday after their point in Jabal Bishri in the western countryside of Deir ez-Zor was targeted with an RPG.

The points and patrols of the government forces and their loyal factions are being targeted almost daily in the western countryside of Deir ez-Zor, through improvised explosive devices and direct targeting with medium machine guns, individual weapons, and RPGs.

Since Sunday morning, the area has been on high alert near government forces’ points and checkpoints in the western countryside of Deir ez-Zor in general and the Jabal Bishri area in particular, with the aim of repelling attacks that may occur on the points and checkpoint, according to a military source.

Haitham al-Mouh (a pseudonym), a member of the Fifth Corps in the Jabal Bishri area, said that the operation took place before dawn, and the three wounded were taken to the military hospital in the town of al-Tebni, where one of them lost his life.

Al-Mouh expressed his belief that the attackers were from the cells of the Islamic State (ISIS).

ISIS cells are active in the area, and government forces are trying to remove from the Deir ez-Zor desert through combing campaigns in response to nearly daily attacks.
