Landmine explosion leaves casualties in Syria’s Kobani

KOBANI, Syria (North Press) – On Tuesday, a 16-year-old child lost his life and a young man was wounded in the explosion of a landmine left behind by the Islamic State (ISIS) near a village in the western countryside of Tel Abyad (Gire Spi), north Syria.

The countryside of Kobani witnesses explosions of mines which were earlier planted by ISIS in the region.

Sarbest Khalil Bozo, a relative of the child from the village of Tel Akhdar 8 km west of Tel Abyad, said that Habib Ahmed Khalil al-Ramo was killed and his uncle Mohammed Jamo was injured when a landmine exploded under a tractor they were driving in the border village of Aghbash, 25 km west of Tel Abyad.

Bozo added that the child was taken to a hospital in Manbij, but he lost his life in the hospital as a result of severe bleeding, while Jamo is still in the intensive care unit in a Manbij hospital.

On May 31, a 15-year-old child lost his life in the village of Karak, 35 km southeast of Kobani countryside, north Syria, as a result of the explosion of a bomb left over from the war.

On March 17 /2020,  a 10-year-old child died and his father was injured in a landmine explosion in the village of Sarzuri, 37 km east of the city of Kobani, northern Syria.
