Syria’s Semalka crossing to reopen on Monday: Crossings Management
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Semalka border crossing with Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRG) will reopen on Monday to humanitarian cases and foreign residencies, an official at crossings’ management of northeast Syria said on Saturday.
The crossing will resume its work as it was before the closure, official at crossings’ management of northeast Syria, Rodi Muhammad Amin, said.
As for patients and marriage cases, they have to visit the Directorate of Entry Visas in Qamishli for their travel procedures, according to the crossings’ management.
Discussions with the management of Faysh Khabur crossing are still ongoing to reach a finalize, Muhammad Amin told North Press.
On June 23, Semalka crossing’s administration decided to close the crossing for travellers move and open it to only UN agencies and humanitarian organizations.
The administration attributed the decision to close the crossing to new measures imposed by KRG government on travellers move.
Muhammad Amin pointed out that the previous measures by Faysh Khabur crossing of the KRG have not changed until they reach a finalize.
Trading through the crossing was not affected, official of customs in Semalka crossing, Haval Khalil, said in a previous exclusive voice recorded statement to North Press.
In light of the ongoing closure of Tel Kochar (al-Ya’roubiya) crossing following a Russian Veto, areas of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) mainly rely on trading through Semalka crossing with KRG.
Additionally, internal crossings between the AANES-held areas and the Syrian government have been closed since March.
