Syrian government to apply new mechanism for bread distribution
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – On Friday, Deputy Minister of Internal Trade and Consumer Protection of the Syrian government, Rif’at Suleiman, announced the launching of a new mechanism to distribute bread in the governorates of Damascus, Latakia, Tartous and Hama which will take into force on July 12.
Government-held areas have been witnessing a sharp shortage in wheat which drove them to reduce the daily allocations of bread for the families which formed long queues in front of the bakeries.
“The new mechanism is based on defining the beneficiary for the sales center and the days that suits him to receive his allowances of the week and the amount he wants to buy during this week, which the seller is not entitled to dispose of them to others so that they remain preserved for him until he receives it,” Suleiman announced on the Ministry’s official page on Facebook.
Earlier in May, the Director General of the Syrian Establishment for Bakeries, Ziyad Haza’ said “the new mechanism for distributing bread depends on the implementation of the spatial policy and connect the producer to the consumer.”
Suleiman added that the new mechanism will be through defining the residents’ allocations in bakery outlets, stalls, or at authorized persons, after determining the final points of sale in the governorate and putting them on the electronic platforms of the card.
“This mechanism guarantees obtaining the bread from a specific point chosen by the person himself, and his share is preserved throughout the day and he can modify the point when needed,” he added.
