Catalan delegation visits Syria’s Autonomous Administration
KOBANI, Syria (North Press) – On Thursday, member of the Catalan Parliament, Iulia Reghovat, said during her visit to Kobani, north Syria, that she will propose to her parliament to develop relations with the Autonomous Administration in preparation to recognize it.
On June 22, a delegation from the Spanish region of Catalonia arrived at the headquarters of the AANES Department of Foreign Relations in Qamishli to “learn about the political and social conditions in the region and to develop relations with the Autonomous Administration,” according to the official website of the Department.
The Catalan delegation consisted of six people, including Ilulia Regovat and Rebneh Wagensing, who are members of the Catalan Parliament, and Laura Briz, a member of the Barcelona City Council, in addition to members of civil society organizations in Barcelona.
The delegation met with the Foreign Relations Department in Kobani, and the “Martyrs’ Families” Council in the Euphrates region, and also went to the “Martyr Dijla” cemetery.
Rebneh Wagensing said, their visit to northeast Syria without visiting Kobani, which was known for its resistance, would have been incomplete.
Earlier today, the delegation visited the Executive Council of the Autonomous Administration in the city of Raqqa, north Syria.
The officials of the AANES explained the nature of the work of the Autonomous Administration and how it runs the affairs of its administrative regions.
Joseph Lahdo, deputy co-chair of the Executive Council of the AANES told North Press that the purpose of the delegation’s visit is to learn about the nature of the AANES work, its needs and how the work is done.
Lahdo pointed out that “the members of the delegation expressed their admiration for the work of AANES, especially its ability in fighting terrorism in the region.”
