Biden seeks “room for co-operation” with Putin in Geneva
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – There are opportunities for cooperation with Russia in providing humanitarian relief to global conflict zones where Russia has sway such as Syria, the US President Joe Biden, said.
Biden’s speech comes two days before the planned meeting with his Russian counterpart in Geneva.
“I am hopeful that we can find an accommodation where we can save the lives of people in,” Biden added.
The United States believes it could work with Russia on strategic stability, humanitarian access in Syria, issues related to Arctic, and a number of other areas, Jake Sullivan, National Security Advisor to the US President, said on Sunday.
For his part, and in an interview with NBC on June 11, the Russian President, Vladimir Putin said, “We have a bilateral relationship that has deteriorated to its lowest point in recent years.”
Biden agreed with Putin saying, the relationship between the two states is a “low point.”
“Putin wanted to meet with Biden precisely because of the poor state of relations between the two nations,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, had told CNN before.
Both leaders said that relations between their two countries were at a low point, but Biden’s latest comments suggested there could be “room for co-operation.”
“What the president is going to make clear to President Putin is that we seek a more stable, predictable relationship with Russia,” Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, told CNN on Sunday.
