Syria’s AANES demands Kurdistan Region release diplomats
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – On Thursday, the Department of Foreign Relations of the Autonomous Administration of North and East of Syria (AANES) demanded the authorities of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRG) release their representative in Erbil, and two members of the Democratic Union Party (PYD) relations office.
Earlier on Thursday, security authorities in the Kurdistan Region arrested “the representative of the Autonomous Administration in Erbil, Jihad Hassan, and two members of the Democratic Union Party’s relations office, Mustafa Khalil and Mustafa Aziz, while heading to Erbil International Airport,” according to the Relations Department.
The KRG has not commented on the incident so far.
The department said that “the fate of the detainees is still unknown, and this measure would increase tension and weaken the course of dialogue.”
It also said: “Turkey is trying to create strife to make the Kurds fight each other and disrupt the path of historical transformation that the Kurdish issue has reached.”
