Syria’s AANES calls for participation in political process in France speech

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – On Wednesday, a delegation of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) in France demanded to be involved in the political process in Syria and to be provided with services and healthcare support.

The AANES delegation met with the Head of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the French National Assembly Jean-Louis Bourlanges, upon an official invitation.

On Monday, the AANES’s delegation arrived in the French capital Paris. The delegation included deputy co-chair of the AANES Executive Council Hamdan al-Abd, co-chair of the Raqqa Civil Council Layla Mustafa, and Head of the Foreign Affairs in Rojava University Gulistan Seydo.

Al-Abd said that they asked for the AANES to be involved in the political process and the drafting of the constitution for the settlement in accordance with Security Council Resolution 2254.

“We also called for international support for reconstruction and the establishment of development projects to eliminate unemployment and provide humanitarian support to the refugee camps in northeastern Syria,” al-Abd added in an exclusive interview with North Press.

The delegation also called for support of the education and health sector in northeastern Syria, according to al-Abed.

Bourlanges said that the delegation reflects the reality of northeast Syria’s policy which is based on co-existence among the communities and  gender quality.

“You fought terrorism in northeast Syria under difficult circumstances, and despite all these difficulties, you sought all the time to build a democratic system,” he added to the guest delegation.

Al-Abd described France’s position to be “clear from the beginning” and thanked France’s people and government for their support of the AANES’s project.

He considers that the equality between the communities and genders and the respect of the cultural and ethnic diversity in northeast Syria “touch on French principles.”

“The Kurds have been subjected to injustice throughout history and were deprived of their rights. Today, they are fighting to achieve democracy,” Bourlanges said.

“This contributes to the building of a democratic and stable country that guarantees the rights of everyone,” he pointed out.

The delegation’s visit is scheduled to continue until June 11.
