Dozens of livestock killed of Turkish shelling on Syria’s Afrin
AFRIN, Syria (North Press) – On Thursday, Turkish forces targeted the village of Aqiba, south of Afrin, northwest Syria, with artillery shells, killing dozens of livestock and resulting in material damage to houses and properties of civilians.
The shelling caused fire to break out in the forest between Aqiba and Soghana villages in the same area, eyewitnesses from the mentioned village told North Press.
While military sources said, the source of the shelling was the Turkish military base in Meryamin village, southeast of Afrin.
The same sources reported that clashes between Syrian government forces and Turkish-backed armed opposition groups erupted in Mar’anaz village, southeast of Afrin.
The city of Afrin and its environs northwest Syria, have been occupied by Turkey and its affiliated armed opposition groups since March 2018.
Areas of Syria held by Turkish-backed armed groups are witnessing arbitrary detentions and assassinations, accompanied by successive explosions amid the armed groups’ inability to control security and stabilize the area.
