Coronavirus vaccination starts in days: Syria’s Raqqa Health Committee
RAQQA, Syria (North Press) – The process of coronavirus vaccination in Raqqa will start within days, after it had started in other areas in northeast Syria, Zaina al-Hassan, co-chair of the Health Committee in Raqqa, northern Syria, said.
The vaccination will be optional and not compulsory, and it will primarily target medical and health personnel in Raqqa and those with chronic diseases, she added.
Al-Hassan indicated that the total number of vaccines is 17,500 packages provided by the World Health Organization (WHO) to the Health Board of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES).
A few days ago, the Health Board started the first vaccination process in northeastern Syria by vaccinating medical personnel in the hospitals of the city of Hasakah, followed two days ago in Deir ez-Zor.
Yesterday, the AANES Health Board co-chair, Jiwan Mustafa said, the amounts of vaccines are allocated for the medical staff, who are in the first defense line confronting the virus and keeping it under control.
He added that there is a future plan of the Health Board to vaccinate the vulnerable people who need the vaccine, especially the elderly who are over 55 years old and with chronic diseases.
With the newly cases announced today, the total number of coronavirus infections in northeast Syria has risen to 17,946, including 732 deaths and 1,817 recoveries.
