Two Syriac/Assyrian parties in Qamishli are discuss political agreement under US auspices
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The co-chair of the Syriac Union Party said, on Wednesday, that they discussed with the Assyrian Democratic Organization a joint political agreement in Qamishli, northeastern Syria.
On Tuesday, a joint delegation from the Syriac Union Party and the Assyrian Democratic Organization met with US Deputy Special Envoy to Syria David Brownstein.
Sanhrib Barsoum, the co-chair of the Syriac Union Party, told North Press that during the meeting with the American ambassador, points of agreement and disagreement were discussed to come up with a joint political framework.
The meeting was attended, on the part of the Syriac Union, along with Barsoum, Elizabeth Goriya, representative of the political relations committee of the party, and on the part of the Assyrian Democratic Organization, its officials Gabriel Moshe and Dawoud Dawoud.
Since 2017, the Syriac parties have met to discuss a comprehensive agreement, and the meetings have evolved over the past six months to move towards signing a permanent agreement, according to Barsoum.
During the meeting, Brownstein stressed the US administration’s rejection of the Syrian presidential elections that are taking place today in the regions of the Syrian government, and the continuation of the US policy towards achieving UN Resolution 2254.
Barsoum said that America supports dialogues between all parties in northeastern Syria to reach a political solution to the Syrian crisis.
Since the initiative of Commander-in-Chief of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) Mazloum Abdi last year, the Americans have sponsored a dialogue between the national unity parties and the Kurdish National Council, without reaching an agreement yet.
On April 2, and in contrast to Kurdish rapprochement, the Syriac parties celebrated under a joint tent the Assyrian New Year (Akitu) in the town of Tirbespi in the countryside of Qamishli.
