KRG gives population thousands of coronavirus vaccines

ERBIL, Iraq (North Press) – On Monday, the Ministry of Health of the Kurdistan Regional Government in Iraq (KRG), Dr. Saman Barzanji, announced that it gave population more than 100,000 coronavirus vaccine doses.

According to the latest statement published by the Ministry of Health, the KRG recorded 747 new coronavirus infections and 10 deaths, while the total number of the infections has risen to 165,458 since coronavirus broke out in Kurdistan Region.

During a press conference held with the representative of the World Health Organization (WHO) today, Dr. Saman Barzanji called on the international community to provide Kurdistan Region with coronavirus vaccines, taking into account the specificity of housing thousands of displaced people.

Barzanji stressed that the vaccines sent through Baghdad are not enough.

164,300 coronavirus vaccines have been given to the population through the various vaccination outlets, and the process is still ongoing, according to the minister.

Barzanji said that his ministry is about to secure another amount of coronavirus vaccines for the population.

The minister called the residents to follow the health instructions, avoid gatherings and wear face masks because these procedures are the only way to curb the spread of the virus.

He pointed that declining the number of the infections does not mean the end of the virus, referring to the method of recording the population in the electronic system and waiting for the defining date for receiving the vaccine.
