PALMYRA, Syria (North Press) – A pro-government militant was killed and two others were seriously wounded, Saturday, in the vicinity of the town of Sukhnah, in the middle of the Syrian Desert east of Palmyra, when unknown individuals targeted a patrol of al-Quds Brigade group, affiliated with government forces and backed by Iran, with two explosive devices.
A local military source in the town of Sukhnah told North Press that unknown individuals planted two bombs while the patrol left their point in the vicinity of the town of Sukhnah and headed towards the center of the town.
“The driver lost his life immediately, and two others were seriously wounded in their feet,” the source added.
On the first day of Eid al-Fitr, the Russian-backed Fifth Corps, affiliated with the government forces, was targeted as it was heading from the city of Palmyra towards the town of Sukhnah with an explosive device, and two personnel were seriously wounded.
As a result, the region witnessed a security alert by the pro-government groups, and it is believed that Islamic State (ISIS) cells are behind the targeting operations, according to the source.
