Shelling renews between government forces, Turkish-backed groups in Syria’s Idlib

IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – On Saturday, different areas in the southern countryside of Idlib, northwest Syria, witnessed ongoing mutual shelling between Syrian government forces and Turkish-backed armed groups.

On Saturday at dawn, government forces targeted armed groups’ posts in the towns of Fleifel, al-Fatirah, and al-Bara in Zawoya Mountain, south Idlib, with heavy artillery shells and rocket launchers, a military source from the armed groups told North Press.

The shelling coincided with intensive flights of Russian warplanes and drones over the countryside of Idlib, Hama, Latakia, Aleppo countryside, reporting no human casualties.

Meanwhile, Fateh al-Mubin Operations Room, which includes the National Front for Liberation and Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, in addition to the Army of Glory (Jaysh al-Izza), announced that they targeted government posts in the towns of  Ma’arat Mokhes and Milaja, south Idlib.

On Friday, Fateh al-Mubin announced that they managed to kill four government soldiers in an attack by HTS militants on the frontline in Milaja town.

The military escalation between Syrian government forces anf Turkish-backed armed groups is taking place despite the ongoing two-year-old ceasefire agreement signed between Russia and Turkey.
