Asayish arrests ISIS leader in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor countryside

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – On Monday, Special Unites affiliated with the Internal Security Forces (Asayish) arrested a leader of Islamic State (ISIS) during a security campaign in Sha’fah town, in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, a military source said.

The operation was carried out with the support of the US-led Global Coalition areal monitoring, the source added.

Asayish Special Unites managed to arrest “a prominent ISIS leader, who was active in recruiting sleeper cells, easing their work, and planning for assassinations,” the source noted.

The eastern Deir ez-Zor countryside witnesses assassinations carried out against SDF members, employees of the civil administration, tribal figures, and civilians in the area and ISIS is accused of committing them.
