Northeast Syria’s Christians celebrate St. George’s Day

DERIK, Syria (North Press) – Christiansin the city of Derik, northeast Syria, celebrated St. George’s Day amidst restrictive preventative measures against coronavirus, Saturday.

With the attendance of the pastor of the Chaldean Church in Derik, Christians of the village of Khanik held a mass at the Church of the Virgin in the village.

Meanwhile, due to the lockdown against the coronavirus pandemic, few people from the village attended the mass, unlike previous years.

This event is celebrated by all Christian denominations in Syria, especially the Chaldeans, every year on April 24, and it dates back to the death of Saint George in the year 264 AD.
