Lockdown did not achieve its goals: Crisis Team in Syria’s Manbij

MANBIJ, Syria (North Press) – On Thursday, a local health official in the Crisis Management Team in Manbij, north Syria, revealed that the goals of the complete lockdown were not achieved during the period it was imposed by the Autonomous Administration.

The implementation of complete or partial lockdown will not help if people keep disregarding the means of preventing the virus, Ahmad Hilal, deputy co-presidency of the Health Committee, said. 

The Civil Administration of Manbij has recorded 355 coronavirus cases, including 22 deaths and 14 recoveries so far, according to the city’s Health Committee.

Hilal added that the residents’ lack of commitment to the complete lockdown, not wearing face masks and gloves, and not staying away from gatherings, all these things increased the number of infections compared to the first days of the new wave of the virus’s spread.

The decision of the partial curfew in Manbij will start tomorrow, on Friday, for seven days, according to the decision of issued by the Autonomous Administration, a week after the total lockdown.

The city of Manbij has two quarantine centers that lack artificial respirators, according to Hilal.

He called on the international organizations, led by the World Health Organization (WHO), to provide the necessary assistance to the regions of northeast Syria to deal with the virus, including vaccines and artificial respirators, “before the situation gets out of control.”

The number of coronavirus infections in the regions of northeast Syria has reached 14,681 confirmed cases, including 485 deaths and 1,488 recoveries.
