Medical team calls for help after losing control of coronavirus east Syria
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – On Monday, al-Furat medical team in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor called on the international organizations to provide help after losing control of the outbreak of coronavirus.
Member of the team said that the severe shortage of medical equipment and supplies caused a loss of control in containing the spread of coronavirus and a significant increase of infections.
He added that they lack oxygen cylinders, oxygen meters, face masks, sterilants, ambulances, in addition to the logistical support the team needs.
About a year ago, al-Furat medical team was formed of workers in the health centers of the Health Committee in Deir ez-Zor after the spread of coronavirus.
He pointed out that their care for the infected people is limited to following home quarantine mechanism and providing some necessary medicines.
He appealed to international health organizations and relevant institutions to provide the necessary support to the team to continue its work during the third wave of the virus.
The lack of oxygen during the recent period caused a deterioration in the condition of some patients and the occurrence of serious complications such as loss of consciousness and paralysis due to hypoxia, the doctor added.
On April 12, the AANES Health Board issued an urgent appeal to all international organizations, primarily the WHO, to immediately intervene and prevent a humanitarian catastrophe in northeast Syria.
On Monday, the number of people infected with coronavirus in northeast Syria reached 14,049 cases, including 462 deaths and 1,444 recoveries.
