Pro-Iranian group establishes military post in Syria’s Palmyra

PALMYRA, Syria (North Press) Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps-backed group, Liwa Fatemiyoun, started establishing a new military post in the vicinity of the archaeological site in the city of Palmyra, in the eastern countryside of Homs.  

The group is rehabilitating old dormitories that were previously used by government forces, with the aim of converting them into a special military point.

Jassem al-Hamoud, a builder from Palmyra, said that he and a group of workers are dividing the dormitories into offices in addition to creating a second floor for the dormitories with the aim of turning it into a dormitory for the group’s members.

“Liwa Fatemiyoun brought 40 workers from the city of Palmyra and provided building materials to speed up the construction process within a maximum period of 60 days,” he added.

While Abdul-Ilah al-Ali, member of Liwa Fatemiyoun, said that the Mine Action Unit had cleaned the dormitories surrounding from remnants of war that had been planted earlier.

The groups, supported by the IRGC and the Iraqi Hezbollah, have 11 military points in the archaeological area in Palmyra.
