KRG President hosts US official, focusing on Kurdish issue
ERBIL, Iraq (North Press) – On Sunday, the President of the Iraqi Kurdistan Region (KRG), Nechirvan Barzani, received David Brownstein, the US Deputy Special Envoy to Syria.
During the meeting, they discussed the latest developments in Syrian in general, the role of the US and the Global Coalition to defeat the Islamic State (ISIS), and the presence of the international forces.
Barzani and Brownstein emphasized on the situation in northeast Syria, the importance of stability, and dialogue between the Kurdish parties and officials in Syria.
“The tense situation in Syria will not be addressed overnight, and that the military option is not a solution,” Barzani stressed, according to a statement issued by his office, adding that the Syrian problem should be solved through the political option and dialogue.
Regarding the Kurdish issue in Syria, Barzani stressed the need to address it within the framework of Syria.
“The threat of ISIS in Syria is still real, so the support provided by the US, the Global Coalition and allied parties in Syria must continue to confront terrorism,” Barzani added.
Today, the President of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (PDK), Masoud Barzani, met with Bronstein, in the presence of the US Consul in Erbil, Robert Waller.
“President Masoud Barzani discussed with Brownstein issues related to the security of the region and the attacks on Erbil International Airport, in addition to referring to Barzani’s role in stability,” Barzani’s headquarters said in a statement.
The two sides also discussed the situation in Syria and the future of the Kurds there, hoping that the Kurdish parties in Syria would reach a joint agreement.
